MS. LESLIE’S LETTER TO PARENTS
It lingers as one of my loveliest memories. My father turns to me, bows, extends his hand, and asks me the heart racing, joy filling question, “May I have this dance, princess?” Giggles of happiness happen as my little girl hand is covered by his, and standing tiptoe on top of his huge, confident feet, I follow my prince wherever he goes.
It’s the same invitation God extends to humanity every minute of every day. “I love you with an everlasting, steadfast love. My love for you endures all of your doubts, fears, and failures. It never changes. I love you. Will you dance with me? Will you let me take the lead and follow me? Will you follow me into a life of love?
The young children God places in our life are solely dependent on us to teach them the dance of love of God and love of others. We teach with both our words and our actions. Both are equal in their power to edify or destroy.
A dear friend, Michelle Lavergne, shared with me a startling quote. I never want to forget it. “Every time you criticize a child, they don’t think less of you; they think less of themselves.”
God is asking you and God is asking me, “One day at a time, will you follow my lead in patience, kindness, and forgiveness? One day at a time, will you refuse to keep a record of the wrongs done to you by someone? One day at a time, will you seek to be content with your circumstances and deny jealousy and greed entrance into your thoughts? One day at a time, will you seek to see others as I see them, a beloved child of mine, and encourage them with every word you speak? One day at a time, will you use your words and actions as a means to bring the children I place in your life to Me?”
The God of the Universe invites you and He invites me to stand tiptoe on top of His huge, confident feet and be led by Love to love. “Less of me and more of Thee” will become our daily mantra. Through our words and actions, children will learn to discern between God’s kingdom and the world’s kingdom. Together, we will experience the dance of a lifetime.
Thank You, Lord, Thank You, Lord God, for your steadfast, enduring love. Give us the courage to give up control, and to follow Your lead into a life of love. Bless Your precious children and keep them free from harm. We adore You, O Christ, now and forever.
Amen.
