Ms. Leslie’s Letter to Parents
Two days ago while lying next to my husband, wanting desperately to fall asleep, I rolled over and whispered, “Frank, I’m in a dark place and I can’t get out of it. I feel overwhelmingly inadequate, confused, like a total failure.” Gentle words and a tender pat tried to reassure me.
But all I could see was darkness.
I was desperate. “Frank, will you pray for me? Please.” In a half-asleep daze, my precious Frank rose to the occasion and prayed. The darkness refused to disperse. But, somehow, touching the one who could see The Light, I fell asleep.
Jesus tells us, “I am the Light of the World.” John 8:12, 9:5. We are all people who walk in darkness at different times and in different ways. Children included. Together, we stand with one common need: to see The Light in the presence of darkness.
So, the questions we might ask ourselves are these:
How do I “touch” someone when I can’t see The Light?
How do I stay “touchable” for my children when they see dark?
We give great thanks to You, Lord God, for being The Light that pierces the darkness.
